Why Choose Recreational Vehicle (RV) Insurance

Driving around the country in a RV it definitely a good time, but before you set off on that first road trip, you should make sure your recreational vehicle has the protection it needs.

The types of vehicles that are insured under a recreational vehicle insurance policy include:

  • Motor homes
  • RV
  • Travel trailer
  • Camper

Whether your recreational vehicle is towed or driven, it has unique needs your insurance policy should meet.

Types of RV Insurance Coverage

As with any traditional auto insurance policy, RV insurance overs the basics, including:

This provides financial coverage to other drivers, passengers, and/or pedestrians in at at-fault accident.

This covers medical expenses for you if you are injured in an accident regardless of fault.

This covers damages or losses sustained to your RV and belongings from something other than an accident, such as fire, theft, vandalism, or damage from animals.

This provides protection for your recreational vehicle in a collision, whether it’s a collision with another vehicle or an object, such as tree.

This covers your RV when it is damaged or you experience loss by a driver who does not have insurance, or their liability limits won’t cover all of the damage.

To meet the needs of RVs specifically, there are optional coverages usually available:

If your RV suffers a total loss within the first few years (usually 4 to 5 years) of ownership, then this coverage offers a brand-new replacement of a similar model and quality. Once the few years pass, then you’ll receive cash value for the value of the RV.

Your RV contains a lot of personal belongings, so this coverage pays for the loss of those belongings in a covered loss. A certain amount, usually up to $5,000, is offered in comprehensive coverage, but you can add up to $100,000 with this additional coverage.

This extends liability to pay for any damages or losses that occur on a campsite or vacation site where you RV is parked. Although your comprehensive and collision coverage includes this, you can opt to purchase additional coverage.

This acts as personal liability coverage if you are living in your RV for an extended period.
